Manually completing a task

Sometimes a task gets handled outside of email. A TC picks up the phone, gets a commitment, and now the AI is still waiting on a reply it'll never see. Mark it done manually.

How to mark complete

Every task row in the workspace has an inline Mark complete button and a kebab menu with more options:

  • Mark complete (inline button on the row, also kebab → Mark complete) — opens a small inline form. Add a reason ("handled via phone with seller's agent"). Click Confirm. Task flips to done, drops into the Done group at the bottom of the Plan view with your reason inline, and the engine moves on to the next prereq-gated task.

  • Dismiss (not applicable) (kebab menu) — use this when the task doesn't apply to this deal. E.g. "Coordinate HOA estoppel" on a deal that turned out not to be HOA, or "Lender intro" on a cash deal. Reason required.

  • Reopen task (kebab on already-closed tasks) — flips back to pending so the engine picks it back up.

Where the actions appear

The same actions are on every surface that renders a task:

  • All filter (focus cards for active items, including overdue tasks)
  • Tasks filter (the Plan view, grouped by phase)
  • Blocked filter (blocked cards)
  • Plan view's Done group (Reopen only)
  • Today page (cross-deal active items)

Wherever you can see a task, you can act on it.

Why the reason matters

Your reason appears in three places:

  1. The task's Done-group entry in the Plan view — "marked done by you — handled via phone"
  2. The task's history strip in the right pane when you click the task back open
  3. The audit log — for the "why did this happen" question later

It's free-form text. Keep it short. Future-you will thank present-you.

Downstream effects

When you manually complete a task:

  • Any task whose prerequisite was this one becomes eligible to activate.
  • The deal's progress bar fills in.
  • If the task had a pending drafted email waiting to send, that draft is cancelled (you don't need the engine to follow up on something you already handled).
  • If the task template had an artifactSlot, and you mark it done manually without providing an artifact, the slot stays empty — the engine won't hunt for an unsolicited PDF to fill it.

If you made a mistake

Reopen the task via the kebab menu. The status goes back to pending. The audit log preserves both the original completion AND the reopen — you don't lose history.

What if you marked the wrong one?

Reopen + then mark the correct task. Don't try to force-fix via the database — the audit trail is the truth.
